French late 17th-early 18th century Louis XIV frame. Carved in fruitwood: acanthus leaf corners linked by continuous foliate strapwork with alternating flowers and buds on a cross-hatched ground, flower-&-leaf sight, dentil back; all re-cut in the gesso. Frame retains its original matt and burnished water gilding, sanded frieze
